The reason the technology matters
Hardware that stays up year round faces a harder test than hardware that lives in a box eleven months a year. Traditional bulbs are designed to come down. LEDs generate almost no heat and have nothing fragile inside, which is the whole reason a permanent system is possible.You do not have to know any of it to make a good decision. It is a reason to ask what is actually going on your house, instead of a general assurance. The people who can walk you through it are generally the ones doing it properly.
The half of the system nobody talks about
The LEDs sit inside a color matched aluminum channel. The channel is doing the concealment work, and it is also the reason the light points where it should. Color matching is part of the specification, not something added afterward.
Individual diodes, not one long bulb
Each LED in the run is addressed on its own. Without individual control the whole house is one shade at a time. With it patterns become possible. Most nights the fancy part goes unused, which is not a criticism.Look at somebody's finished work at noon rather than at nine, because night hides sloppy mounting and daylight does not.
The rest of the system

The long view
Permanent means permanent, which is the appeal and also the responsibility. A system put up carefully does its job quietly for a long time. A rushed one announces itself in daylight, which defeats the entire point. That is why the crew matters as much as the product.
What the system has to survive
Permanent hardware faces every kind of day the Upstate has. Summer heat builds up along a sunlit fascia, and heat is the enemy of anything with a circuit in it. Humidity and the storms that come with it are the other half, which puts the seals and the connections under real load. The failure points are connections, not diodes.
Dimming
The output can be turned down. Full brightness is for December, and it is far more light than an ordinary evening wants. Most people end up running the everyday setting well below maximum, because a soft glow reads as designed and a bright one reads as decorated.
